ABOUT JACQUI GIBBONS
I trained as a yoga teacher on triyoga’s two-year, 390-hours diploma, studying under Carlos Pomeda, Jeff Phenix and Susannah Hoffman. I’m a new teacher but have practised and studied yoga for 18 years and practise devotedly every morning. I teach a grounded yet flowing class where we move with grace, breathe with ease, find the stillness within, seek the truth of our Self, and smile! I combine the philosophy and meditation of traditions such as Tantra and classical with the asana and pranayama of Hatha. I believe yoga is not complete without meditation, seeking the core of who we are, our true nature of love and bliss.
I constantly further my practice, seeking both knowledge from teachers and books, and the truth within, which we only find when we put down the books and look inside, in meditation. My own current class teachers are Jeff Phenix and Erika Tourell. Some one-day and weekend workshops I have attended in the past year include Christopher Hareesh Wallace (tantric texts, practices and meditation), Sally Kempton (meditation and tantric goddesses), James French (chakras), Lisa Sanfillipo (chakras), Dr Jason Birch (texts of medieval hatha yoga), and re-sitting lectures from my training (just for fun) with Carlos Pomeda (history/philosophy) and Andrew McGonigle (anatomy).
I qualified as an Ayurvedic practitioner in 2008, training for two years with Vaidya Atreya Smith of the European Institute of Vedic Studies (EIVS), followed by 200 hours with Dr Sunil V Joshi of the Vinayak Ayurveda and Panchakarma Research Foundation in Nagpur, India.
For seven years I held a part-time clinic at Maitri Natural Health Centre in south London (then briefly at Triyoga in Camden). I treated patients' health issues through diagnosis and treatment of imbalance in the doshas, devising personalised health programmes utilising Ayurvedic nutrition and health coaching. I also gave various Ayurvedic therapies and yoga.
I stopped working one-to-one to do my yoga teacher training, so that I can work one-to-many through yoga classes and courses, and yoga and ayurveda workshops. (I no longer offer one-to-one consultations.) I also work as journalist and I live in sunny south London.
